I’m not here to sell fear.

I’m not here to scare you.
I am here and available to help you do things that will protect you. So I hope you are feeling happy since experts tell us when people are in a good mood, they are more likely to engage in boring tasks.
And while I refer to many aspects of Cyber Security as a mysterious riddle waiting to be understood… Cyber Security (or hacking for that matter) can also be mundane.
With that in mind, I have logins to nearly 300 websites/services/tools, etc. Last year, I committed to making sure the EVERYONE of them had a unique complex password used no where else. I also refused to use an existing account as the login for another – ie google, facebook or microsoft. That way none of those accounts could be compromised by a third party service I had approved with a “click”.
It took me six weekends to get them all changed. But I ultimately did it because I was motivated by the need to control those logins rather than have them controlling me. As an IT professional, I wanted to prove to myself the best process to improve my personal security posture. What’s the old saying, “the carpenter’s house always needs work”. There is a lot of lip service given to security by IT professionals.
I was no longer willing to be one of them.
And that made me happy!
